#255- BE STREET?

The other day, I asked a cute couple from France, “Why did you move to L.A. from Paris, France? Why L.A.?”

I was wondering, why they are here from Paris (the famous fashionable city in the world)?

And… I was laughing at myself in my mind… “Oops… I am too…! I am from Tokyo, Japan, one of a kind fashionable city…why am I here?”

Anyway, I interviewed the co-founder & owner of the magazine BE STREET, Mr. Benjamin Benichou and Ms. Shu Pan for Senken-Shimbun (major Japanese fashion business newspaper) website column.

Here is my translation of the column about them into English from Japanese.

Title of the column: In L.A. “BE STREET” launch

“BE STREET” (http://www.be-street.com) in France is an urban culture magazine which they are bilingual in French & English.

At this time, they sell this magazine in 15 countries worldwide including Japan, but they will launch U.S. edition in Los Angeles (L.A.) in July 2015.

Co-founder & owner of the magazine BE STREET, Mr. Benjamin Benichou and Ms. Shu Pan who have got a green card (the right of permanent residence in U.S.), they moved to L.A. from Paris in last November, and  they are seriously starting up  their business in U.S.

Their reasons for immigration are, “Our magazine is introducing street fashion, music, art etc., and most of them are from here in west coast in U.S. So L.A. is the center of street culture” (said by Shu)  and “Ocean, mountain, city, business, we can enjoy everything, this lifestyle is great, and the warm weather and sunny every day, so we can be positive, and there are many friendly & energetic people here, so I love L.A.” (said by Benjamin)

The concept of this magazine is “these days we are communicating by SNS in the world and we are able to receive variety of information about goods and things, and the keyword of this new area is crossover.”

Besides they are introducing many kinds of tastes & style of skate, surf, hip-hop etc. for street fashion, music, art, lifestyle etc., they are selling goods of collaboration with artists who they interviewed in the magazine on their website, and they have been held the event “BE STREET WEEKND” (they are planning this event in L.A. on August 29th and 30th.)

They visited in Japan in March 2015 for a first time, and they said about Japan, “We love Japanese unique fashion and culture. City is very clean and organized, it’s wonderful that Japanese people are into good quality goods”, and they revealed their plans which they are planning to publish a digest magazine in Japanese.

I look forward to seeing their more success in U.S. that they just moved in L.A. and have been living like “be street”.

Downtown L.A. is getting fashionable town again these days, and this view is from their office & home (7th floor). When they open their window, they can see The Orpheum Theatre which built in 1926 and the historical cultural property

Happy every day to you.
