#140- At the Miyako Hybrid Hotel

Today, the president of the Miyako Hybrid Hotel, Mr. Akimasa Yoneda invited me to have a lunch with him at the Gonpachi restaurant at this hotel in Torrance.

Mr.Yoneda and I had a great time :)

The lunch was very delicious. Salad, Miso soup, Omakase Sushi (Omakase means, “Chef's choice”) , Green tea, Kuzumochi (Kuzumochi is a mochi cake made of kuzuko)& Green tea Ice cream and Coffee. Oh…I was in heaven :)

Mr.Yoneda is a wonderful businessman and he has knowledge and know how for many things. I was very impressed with him, how he made this hotel wonderful and what he does for this hotel.

For example, how to prevent noise from the next door, outside and air conditioner (they have special treatment for the wall, electrical outlet, double paned window, air conditioner with four pipes treatment), how to negotiate with his venders (focus on how fast he can get what he wants), how to make beautiful hotel (yes, I love the design/style/color of this hotel, it’s very chic and sophisticated) etc...

And he also gave me the great info, such as…which sushi bar are the great in town besides Gonpachi (sorry folks, this info has to be secret) and which day is the best to go to sushi bar (the answer is Tuesday and Friday! because the fresh fishes from the famous fish market in Japan, Tsukiji on Tuesday and Friday).

Guess what, I got a scoop! Miyako Hybrid Hotel uses Feng Shui technique!!! I was wondering why I feel great energy from the hotel and I found the secret of the positive power from Feng Shui (by the way, Mr.Yoneda has natural positive power).

It was so nice treat for me to have a nice lunch with Mr.Yoneda and to see the wonderful hotel inside out.

Mr.Yoneda took me to the roof to show me the air conditioner system and solar panels(they are so cool!). Wow, the view is so nice! I could see the Hollywood sign, downtown L.A. buildings, LAX, mountains…Mr.Yoneda wants to build the beer garden on the roof, sounds like fun!!!

I also had a chance to see the regular guest room, executive guest room, luxurious suites, banquet rooms, meeting rooms, garden and the spa (Relaken Day Spa).

The bathroom is so nice in the guest room, it has a large window, so guests are able to watch TV (big screen) during the bath time. It also has rain shower! (except the regular room)

Moreover, there are Japanese toilets and Japanese style oversized bathtubs!

Folks, you have to try Japanese toilet! You can enjoy warm seat and there are many fancy things with it :) (there are women’s room & men's room downstairs. if you don’t spend the night here, but when you visit Gonpachi or Relaken Day Spa, you can use the Japanese toilet with the Japanese technology!)

Most important thing is that the Miyako Hybrid Hotel made by eco-friendly things(with a solar-powered electrical system, environmentally responsible construction materials and recycled materials).

Own by Japanese (Kintetsu Corporation), so there are Japanese art and artifacts everywhere.

By the way, “Miyako” means, “capital” in Japanese, center of business and entertainment.

As “Miyako” is on the name, it makes sense that they have many important guests from Japan. Mr.Yoneda told me that “Each morning, when I read Nihon Keizai Shimbun (a leading economic newspaper in Japan), I see our VIP guests on the newspaper. Executives and businessmen of Japanese major companies are always here when they are on their business trip in L.A.” Even though, Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force and Japan Air Self-Defense Force are spending night at this hotel.

Wow! Sounds like, all important Japanese are here, right?

Visit the Miyako Hybrid Hotel in Torrance, California and take a look at their website at

Folks, if you are not Japanese, no worries, there are many Americans enjoy at this hotel too. And, you are able to feel very important at this hotel like me :)

Mr.Yoneda says, “We are four star hotel”…and I say “Your hotel got five stars from me!”

It was a fabulous day with Mr.Yoneda at the Miyako Hybrid Hotel.

P.S. By the way+By the way, I got a VIP gift from Mr.Yoneda. Cute gift and I love it! Sorry…it’s a secret…you should find out this secret to visit here.

#271-Why people fight?

Why do human beings keep fighting with each other or fighting wars?

About profit?

About territory?

About religion?

About ethnicity?

About statism?

About collectivism?

Why can’t we talk instead of fight (war)?

People are trying to change others…

People don’t want to change for others…

People think “I am right, you are wrong”…

I was thinking about “how can we resolve issues of terrorism and war in this world, can we talk instead of fighting?”

And then I realized “I need to think about my issue first” (since I moved into my apartment in Montrose one year ago)… yes, I have an issue about my living situation… my upstairs neighbor (64 years old woman who is not working) has been waking me up every night (around 11:15pm, 12:15am and 1:15am) with loud squeezing footsteps (it sounds not normal & regular footsteps) for one year… I had to call police twice, and I fought with this neighbor twice…

I tried to go to bed at the same time when this neighbor goes to bed… it doesn’t work (for me late night ene…

#272- Happy employees make happy customers

As you know many department stores (in U.S. and Japan both) are struggling these days due to consumer’s life style (online shopping, cheap fast fashion stores and discount stores).

In general people want to have a convenience life style and want to purchase reasonable price products.

Last October when I bought gift items (for myself and friend who visited this store together) at RAINS in Ojai, I was very surprised by that RAINS has a complimentary wrapping service (all Japanese department stores have a complimentary wrapping service in Japan). I was smiling on the way back to my home after I shopped at RAINS.

This spring when I heard about some Japanese department stores in country side are closing business and their towns became like a ghost town, I thought I want to find out why RAINS is doing well, and I wanted to inform some great news about RAINS to Japanese readers who are struggling in their business.

I’m glad that I did it. I met a wonderful CEO of RAINS (Mr. Alan Rains) and found…
